Scripps National Spelling Bee

Scripps Sponsors:In Vermont, the Burlington Free Press will once again be the primary sponsor of this activity. The Vermont Humanities Council, Vermont Department of Education and Vermont Principals Association will also continue as co-sponsors of this event.

Local Spelling Competitions Completed After February 1st but before March 1st, 2013.

Registered Winner/Photo Deadline (online at Scripps). March 6, 2013.

Vermont Scripps Bee- March 13th, 2013 at McCarthy Recital Hall, St. Michael's College, Colchester, VT

Competition starts at 3:30pm
Note: to Spellers please arrive between 2:45pm- 3:00pm.
 
 Directions to McCarthy Recital Hall at St. Michael’s College

 From points south of Burlington take I-89 North to Exit 15 (Winooski). Turn right, go up the hill, College will be on your left. Take the first turn into the college and drive straight back. The Playhouse Building will be on your right. The McCarthy Recital Hall is there.

 From points north of Burlington take I-89 South to Exit 16. Take aright off the exit, and follow Rte. 7 South to junction of Rte. 15 (center of Winooski).   Follow Rte. 15East for approximately one mile. College is on the left. Take the first turn into the College. Drive straight back. The Playhouse Building will be on your right.  The McCarthy Recital Hall is there.

The Vermont Principals’ Association is proud to once again bring to your students the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program.

In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise—a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts and athletics.

In order for your students to participate in the Scripps spelling bee program, your school must enroll with the Scripps National Spelling Bee at http://spellingbee.com by the October 15 deadline. This will also serve as your registration.

When you enroll at http://spellingbee.com and pay the materials and enrollment fee of $115, you will receive exclusive online access to:

  • Log-in ID and password for a teachers-only area of ,
  • Grade-specific word lists and study sheets for grades 1–8,
  • Study materials for your school spelling champion,
  • The 2013 Classroom Pronouncer Guide,
  • The 2013 School Pronouncer Guide,
  • From Encyclopedia Britannica, a free one-year subscription to Britannica Online for Kids (a $69.95 value),
