CROSS COUNTRY COMMITTEE Members Present: Shawn Woods, Pat Phillips, Leigh Mallory, David McGinn, Bob Johnson Minutes: - correspondence – discussion on the issue of jewelry at state championship. Rule is very clear. This becomes a coaches responsibility. Motion by David M., second by Pat P., to continue to enforce the no jewelry rule as defined by the NFHS. Vote – approved unanimously. This will be stressed to coaches again. Discussion on the letter from the Woods Trail Committee concerning the issue of Sponsorships at the state championships. Bob J. has been in touch with Joe Deffner who chairs the Woods Trail Committee. According to Joe, events at Thetford have always been sponsorship free. This was not know by the current VPA staff. Final decision is that the VPA will be allowed to have one sponsor at the event, with one banner. In addition, up to three PSA’s may also be made. This is acceptable to the VPA as we would like to continue the excellent, long standing relationship with the Woods Trail Committee and Thetford. No further action needed. - Rules changes for 2007 – no major changes noted. - review of the 2006 season. The weather at the championship was the biggest issue.For the first time ever, the championship was postponed during the event and rescheduled for the next week. This worked very well. In the future, Thetford will keep a potential rain date in mind and if needed, it can be implemented immediately, however this will be kept internally. Considering the severity of the weather, things progressed smoothly. Coaches cooperated and the event was rescheduled with minimal hassle. Thetford did an excellent job dealing with this event. Brief discussion on the impact of the Challenge race on course conditions. The impact on the course is minimal. Challenge race will continue to be offered as it currently is. - discussion on divisional alignments of team. This has not happened for many years. The committee chair will be meeting with ASC over the next year to discuss the criteria being used for alignment. A criteria needs to be developed by the committee. We will begin discussions on this, this Fall. One thing that will be done is an information sheet will be given to all teams at the state championship asking them information on their programs. David will coordinate this. - discussion on 2007 championship site. Motion by Pat, second by Leigh to conduct the 2007 state championships at Thetford on October 25th. Vote – approved unanimously. - cross-country guide will be updated by Lancer Timing. David will see that it is ready before the season begins. - adjourned. |
