Members Present:

Minutes
- discussed
possible new trophy for state championships. Mock-up presented
was viewed positively. Will be presented to VSADA on 5/10/04
for their review. No formal action taken.
- approval of
minutes of 3/30/04. Moved by Dot B, second by Cynthia H.,
approved unanimously.
- reviewed correspondence.
Letter from T. Torono concerning conflict of VPA tournaments
with a national math competition. To be put on the agenda
for summer meeting (Tony will be invited to the meeting).
- brief financial
report given. The winter season came out approx. $33,000
ahead of predictions.
- discussed
proposed policy on participation in individual competitions.
Question on whether golf, tennis and wrestling qualify as
team or individual sports. Golf and wrestling allow individuals
to participate in "invitationals" so students
can qualify for the state tournament based on these competitions.
Tennis does not have an individual competition format (no
invitationals). Agreed that tennis would be removed as an
individual sport for this policy and that golf and wrestling
would remain. Agreed to eliminate last sentence in #4. Final
discussion on the impact of this policy on school choice.
Michael explained his view of this. Moved by Dot B., second
by D.G. to accept policy with revisions and to forward this
on to the Executive Council. Approved unanimously.
- discussed
recommendation from Sportsmanship to require coaches and
athletic director/principal to meet with ASC if a team receives
more than two ejections in a season (by coaches or athletes).
Failure to do so would prohibit entry into the VPA tournament.
Moved by John C., second by Cynthia H. to accept recommendation
with the addition that this meeting is required even if
a team does not enter the tournament or is eliminated from
the tournament. Approved unanimously.
- adjourned
in order to meet with the Executive Council.
