2013 VPA Leadership Academy

2.  Interested in becoming a principal mentor? Vermont and NH are planning an NAESP sponsored the Principal Immersion Training July 1-3 at a place yet to be determined. So, if interested, send a note to kpage@vpaonline.org
 
3. It's Official: Since the information about principals of the year is now coming out, I wanted our membership to hear it directly from me. At our March 29th and May 3rd VPA Executive Council meetings, our Council was joined by last year's award winners when we deliberated about who should be selected as the 2013 Principals of the Year So, in all, we had 20+ people on the selection team (and all the candidates nominated were truly deserving). These principals have been selected:
  • Andy Paciulli, Principal of Academy School in Brattleboro was selected as the NAESP National Distinguished principal of the Year
  • Kristen Caliguiri, Principal of Poultney Elementary School was selected as the Henry Giaguque Vermont Elementary Principal of the Year
  • Amy Minor, Principal of Colchester High School was selected as the MetLife NASSP High School principal of the Year
  • Heidi Lucas-Moccia, Principal of Bellows Falls Middle School was selected as the MetLife/NASSP and John Winton Middle level Principal of the Year
  • Tom Sedore, Principal of Spaulding High School in Barre was eslected as the Robert F. Pierce vermont secondary principal of the Year
  • Lyle Jepson, Director of the Stafford Technical Center in Rutland, was selected as the vermont Technocal Director of the Year.
  • Steve Sampson, Assistant Principal of Rutland High School has been selected as the NASSP/Virco Assistant Principal of the Year

WHO WE ARE?
The Vermont Principals' Association is the organization in Vermont for school leaders. With almost 500 members, our organization aims to support both leaders and learners. In addition to providing high quality professional development, we also are proud of our history as the long-standing student athletic and activity organization in Vermont. With the help of our hard-working members, we organize and run the post-season athletic competitions in Vermont at the conclusion of the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.

MEMBERS GET:
Legal support (can you afford not to be a member?); On-call support from Executive Director; E-alerts and periodic professional and legislative updates, school-year professional development for elementary, middle and high school educational leaders; Summer Leadership Academy, the premier summer event for leaders and leadership teams; mentoring support for new school leaders; Networking opportunities with other school leaders; plus extensive student activities and athletic opportunities throughout the school year.

Announcements

  • VPA annnounces a new venture and new partnership to provide high quality professional development opportunities for its members at their own schools. We recognize the need for PD,  and we know how hard it is to get out of your building. So, what if PD came to you? Supported by a generous grant from VSAC, VPA has joined The Ed Leaders Network, a consortium of 10 states to offer high quality on-line PD that is available 24-7. Check out the website at http://www.edleadersnetwork.org Get on-line PD in Behavior Management, Climate and Culture, Common Core, Data, Leadership, Legal, Management, State Mandated Trainings, Teaching and Learning,Technology and much, much more. The VPA member cost for a  year membership is $99.The membership period is a year from when you sign up. Non-member VPA cost ($199). Get PD on your computer, your i-pad or smartphone.
